Visual inspections
They provide a visual record which can be useful for monitoring changes over time and planning future actions of maintenance.
Eye evaluation with the support of optical tools (magnifying glasses, endoscopes, zoom cameras) to detect cracks, fissures, discolorations or other visible signs of deterioration.
They allow an initial assessment of the structural condition.
Non-destructive testing
Technical methods that allow materials or structures to be examined without compromising their integrity. They are used to locate internal defects, evaluate continuity and measure material properties.
- Ultrasound (UT): to detect internal discontinuities.
- Industrial radiography: allows internal faults to be visualized through the material.
- Penetrating liquids (PT): very useful for surface defects.
- Magnetic particles (MT): applicable to ferromagnetic materials to detect surface and subsurface faults.
Post-tested
Cable post-tensioning involves the installation of high-strength steel cables inside the concrete structure and the application of tension to compress the concrete.
This technique improves the load-bearing capacity and flexural strength of concrete, reducing the risk of cracking and collapse.
