At EASTAV, as an IRATA certified training body, we closely monitor all safety alerts affecting PPE used in vertical work. On February 23, 2026, Petzl issued an official safety alert regarding its ASTRO and CANYON GUIDE professional harnesses manufactured before October 2023. We explain everything you need to know and what you should do.

What is this alert about?

Petzl has detected premature wear of the screws at the fastening ventral attachment point in certain rope work harnesses. This wear and tear, caused by repeated lateral stresses at the attachment point, can cause the axis of the ventral D to release and the attachment point to open — posing a serious risk of falling.

This alert is an evolution of its 2023 inspection notice on the same models: subsequent analyses have revealed a non-compliance that the previous inspection test failed to detect.

Are your harnesses affected?

All harnesses are affected with serial number less than 23J 9999999 999. The serial number can be found on the plastic label on the belt.

The affected models are:

  • ASTRO BOD FAST European version: C083AA00, C083AA01, C083AA02
  • ASTRO BOD FAST international version: C083BA00, C083BA01, C083BA02, C083BA03, C083BA04, C083BA05
  • ASTRO SIT FAST: C085AA00, C085AA01, C085AA02
  • CANYON GUIDE: C086BA00, C086BA01

ASTRO harnesses sold since February 2025 are not affected.

PETZL security alert

Can I continue to wear my harness while waiting for the replacement kit?

It depends on your situation:

Case A — You have shackles installed on your harness (only possible on ASTRO harnesses): you can continue to use it temporarily until you receive and install the kit.

Case B — No shackles installed: before any use, carry out the inspection test indicated by Petzl:

Check that the screws are correctly installed according to the technical data sheet, remove any possible accessories mounted in the holes of the shackles and apply manual pressure on the axis of the ventral D.

If the shaft doesn't slide completely → Conforming result, you can continue to use the harness temporarily.

If the axle can come off with your hand → Non-compliant result: Stop use immediately and quarantine the harness until you receive the kit.

Replacement is mandatory, even if your harness was validated as compliant and has a green label from the 2023 notice.

SEE INSPECTION VIDEO:

An alert like this reminds us of the importance of regular PPE inspection by a competent person. Beyond spot replacement of the ventral D, all rope work harnesses must be regularly inspected by a qualified inspector.

At EASTAV we have certified inspectors who carry out complete checks of your personal protective equipment in accordance with EN 365 and EN 361 regulations. We identify wear and tear, non-compliances and expiration dates before they become a real risk.
