What is IRATA International?

IRATA International, the International Rope Access Association, has been setting global standards for the rope access industry since 1988. Its main objective is to promote a safe and efficient working environment for technicians who perform tasks at heights.

IRATA International Certification Levels

Level 1:

IRATA International Level 1 is the starting point for those who want to enter the rope access industry. They receive a practical introduction to basic rope access techniques and procedures. During this level, students work under the direct supervision of level 3 technicians, acquiring experience in performing simple tasks in height and vertical work.

Level 2:

IRATA International Level 2 represents a step forward in the career of a rope access technician. You must meet the minimum requirements of one year of rope work and a thousand hours to reach this level. Competent technicians have demonstrated a higher level of skill and experience in a variety of rope access techniques. They are capable of performing a wide range of tasks with a limited degree of autonomy, under the supervision of a Level 3 technician.

Level 3:

IRATA International Level 3 is the pinnacle of certification for rope access technicians. The minimum requirements to reach this level are, a thousand minimum working hours and one year of level 2. Supervising technicians have deep knowledge of rope access techniques and extensive experience in a variety of industrial environments. They are responsible for supervising and managing rope access projects, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the equipment in the workplace.

Certification Process

To become certified at any of the levels of IRATA International, technicians must successfully complete a rigorous training and evaluation process. From initial level 1, a minimum of 1 year and 1,000 hours must pass to the next level. This includes participating in accredited training courses, accumulating hours of supervised practical work and passing theoretical and practical exams. IRATA certified technicians must renew their certification every 3 years by participating in continuing education programs and demonstrating up-to-date skills.
